Northwestern IT will be working with our vendor to perform regular maintenance to upgrade software with security patches on the two-way radio system on June 1-2, 2026. During this maintenance window, a brief service interruption of approximately 5 minutes is expected for departmental radio dispatch stations at 9:00am on June 2. General two-way radio coverage and operation on the Evanston and Chicago campuses will not be impacted.

Northwestern Information Technology will be making a minor change to the critical power infrastructure at the locations listed below. The network infrastructure affected by this work has power and hardware redundancies, no service interruption is expected with this maintenance. This maintenance is being performed to replace aging power units in a single cabinet within the Chicago Data Center.

Quest Research Computing Cluster June Maintenance Jun 22, 2026 08:00 - Jun 26, 2026 17:00 CDT

Quest Analytics Nodes, the Genomics Compute Cluster (GCC), the Kellogg Linux Cluster (KLC), and Quest OnDemand, will be unavailable for scheduled maintenance starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 22, and ending at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26.

Service Improvements:
• Faster compute time due to improved intra- and inter-node GPU communication.
• Faster job recovery (via expedited job requeue on node failure) and improved job monitoring (via new job filtering options based on runtime) through scheduler upgrade to Slurm v25.11.
• FastX4 will be available to provide a more reliable and secure remote desktop experience (FastX3 desktop client can still be used to connect to Quest after the maintenance).
• Improved GPU software performance and developer productivity through updates to CUDA 13.2, including enhanced libraries, tooling, and support for emerging AI models
• Required patching, software upgrades, and equipment maintenance.

Impact on Quest and Globus Users:
• Jobs with a wall time extending into the maintenance period will not run. (These jobs will receive a "ReqNodeNotAvail, Reserved_for_maintenance" message).
• Access to Quest (including Quest Analytics Nodes, GCC, and KLC) will be unavailable.
• Jobs and processes running when the maintenance begins will be canceled.
• Globus will not be available to transfer data to/from Quest or FSMResFiles.
• The expiration dates of all user files in the Quest global scratch space will be extended to 30 days following the maintenance.

The IT firewall protects IT networks on the Evanston campus and also acts as the GlobalProtect VPN service. This new software brings us to the latest vendor recommended software and also protects us from security vulnerabilities that have been released. No impact to end users is expected during this upgrade due to the redundant nature of this equipment.

This work will cause a service interruption of ~10 minutes for some analog telephone lines on the Chicago and Evanston campuses. Analog telephone lines are used for applications such as fax machines, modems, and elevator phones among others. Regular Voice over IP telephones in workspaces and conference rooms will not be affected.

Scheduled - The myHR system will undergo scheduled maintenance in order to apply Oracle’s quarterly critical security patch. The maintenance necessitates system downtime, meaning myHR, including Self Service and Careers, will be unavailable beginning Saturday, May 16th, at 7 a.m. through approximately 3 p.m.
What This Means
• Functionality — The system components and capabilities you currently enjoy on myHR will continue to function after the upgrade as they do now. Your user experience will be unchanged. Before logging into myHR after the patch, users will need to clear their cache.
• Data Availability — During the downtime, data lookup will remain available to administrators in the myHR reporting database. All reports will remain accessible in Cognos and myHR reporting queries.
