Scheduled Maintenance

(64657) CAESAR, myHR, and NUFinancials Downtime - Apply September CSPU Sep 19, 2026 00:00-12:00 CDT

All three enterprise systems—CAESAR, myHR, and NUFinancials— will undergo scheduled maintenance this weekend to apply Oracle's monthly security and application updates.

Scheduled Maintenance Date and Times
The maintenance necessitates downtime for each system, and they will be unavailable on Saturday, September 19th during the following timeframes:
CAESAR - 12:00 AM to approximately 7:00 AM
myHR (including Self Service and Careers) - 7:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM
NUFinancials - 7:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM

What to expect
Functionality: there are no changes to functionality. Overall, the user experience will not change for the three enterprise systems.
Post-Upgrade Notes: Users will need to clear their cache before logging into each enterprise system after the updates are complete.

This work is being performed to upgrade software to address potential security vulnerabilities. No service impact is expected due to the redundant nature of this equipment.

Northwestern Information Technology will be performing maintenance on network security equipment which filters traffic between the internet and campus.
This work is being performed to address potential security vulnerabilities. There will be 2 brief interruptions in service
of a few seconds when equipment is failed over. In addition, remote sites will be impacted as follows:


Below are the remote sites that will be affected for 30-60 minutes during the posted window:

Scheduled - Northwestern Information Technology will be performing a software upgrade to the Palo Alto Departmental firewalls listed below. The firewalls are being upgraded to install new software that brings them up to the latest vendor-recommended version and also protects us from recently released security vulnerabilities. Standalone firewalls will be down for around 5-10 minutes during the reboot. No end user impact for the Redundant Paired firewalls during this upgrade due to the redundant nature of this equipment.

Scheduled - Northwestern Information Technology will be applying a patch to the authentication servers used to authenticate wireless users. When the main server gets rebooted wireless guest and device registrations will not function for the 10 minutes the server is rebooting. All other authentication services, including certificate-based authentication, will continue to work due to the redundancy of the servers.

Scheduled - Oracle has released a round of high-priority patches that we will apply this evening for myHR, NUFinancials, and CAESAR. Similar to our work in August, we will implement a rolling update, meaning users may briefly lose their connection to systems as the various servers are taken offline. They will be able to log back in immediately and connect through another server.

Service Improvements:
• Better support for latest R packages and tools, improved package management, and faster performance via upgrade to R version 4.5.1
• Enhanced reliability, faster performance, and newer data exploration capabilities in RStudio environment via upgrade to RStudio version 2026.07.1

Impact on Quest Analytics Nodes Users:
• Processes running on the Quest Analytics Nodes will be canceled when the maintenance begins.
• Users will not be able to use RStudio, JupyterHub, or SAS Studio on the Quest Analytics Nodes during the maintenance window.
• After R is upgraded to version 4.5.1, R packages should be reinstalled. Users can prepare before the maintenance by loading the R/4.5.1 module on Quest and reinstalling their packages there; see the R and RStudio on Quest page for instructions. Once maintenance is complete, those packages will be available for use on the Quest Analytics Nodes.

Apple Mail Connectivity Issues
Resolved - Microsoft has confirmed that the issue is resolved and that service is restored for users of the Apple Mail Client connecting to and using Exchange Web Services (EWS).

Identified - Northwestern Information Technology - Collaboration Services is aware of some issues for a limited number of users that have Apple Mail clients connecting to and using Exchange Web Services (EWS). Apple is also aware of this issue.

Users are asked to either use Outlook Web Access (OWA) / Webmail or setup the Mac Outlook client as a workaround until the issue is resolved.

Collaboration Services is looking into the issue and updates will be provided as they become available.

Scheduled - Northwestern IT will be working with our vendor to upgrade hardware on the Two-Way Radio System. During this maintenance window there will be a brief service interruption of approximately 15 minutes at 7:15 AM. All users will see “Out of Range" on their radios and there will be no service on either campus. The only exception is limited radio to radio communication for UP CSOs, Facilities, and TNS who will be able to use secondary zone channel 4 for a talk around which is programmed into the radios. Facilities Dispatch stations will not function. NUPD Dispatch stations will see Starcom and Cook County resources but not the Northwestern radio network.
